Mysterious Lake of Kelimutu, Flores.
The noise of public vehicles made me wake up quickly in the morning, day two in Flores.
After journey with public transport for almost three hours with holding vomiting and dizziness i finaly arrive in one piece in this nice village, Moni. This is closes village to Kelimutu Lake. All i want to do just laydown my body and sleep, this journey took so much energy. But the view in front of my homestay is hard to resist, the owner with nicely serve the coffee and tea and some snack. While we chit chat a little bit, the kids just come back from school saw us in terrace they waves and smile to us and say "Helloo.." ugghh.. so adorable, i am local but feel warmly welcome by people here. Our homestay is located alongside a big road but high enough off the road so we could see the hills clear from our front porch.
Three o'clock in the morning my alarms on, time to wake up and get ready to Kelimutu Lake, the magical lake that people taking about. A three-colored lake whose color can be fickle which is said to be associated with mystical things. The three lakes also have names:
Blue lake named Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai is a gathering place for the souls of teenagers who have died.
The red lake named Tiwu Ata Polo is a gathering place for the souls of the dead who during his life often commit crimes.
The white lake called Tiwu Ata Mbupu is called the gathering place of the parents' soul.
However, the colors are always changing over time.
Arrive at the foot of the mountain we park our bike and get ready to walk, the journey will continue with walking for approximately 30 minutes, the track is very easy because they made the path that has been arranged with stones to facilitate the visitors, clear directions makes easy too so do not need a tour guide. But that's not the obstacle, cold air and the strong winds that sound like whistling make me cold to death. Thick fog still covering the lake and blocking our view but little by little sun comes up and the fog disappeared but not for a long after waiting and waiting the fog still won't go away then we come back home.

Flores is from Portuguese language meaning "Flower" is like a little paradise in Indonesia. Due to a colonial Portuguese colony, interaction with Portuguese culture is felt there, both through genetics, religion, and culture.
For women's clothing there generally use a sarong, although this is a modern era but the ladies there, especially rural communities are still many who wear sarongs as daily fashion. But the sheath is also not a regular sarongs but a hand-made sarong that can take 1 month more in the process of making.
Nice lady i met in public transport keep engage me talking to distract my vomit. |
How to Get there :
From Jakarta - Labuan Bajo - Ende - Moni.
From Bali - Labuan Bajo - Ende - Moni.
Its pretty easy to reach Kelimutu, start my journey from Jakarta with airplane i transit in Labuan Bajo then took another plane to Ende, then continue to Moni village.
After arrive in Ende airport took angkot to Roworoke terminal it takes 3 hours to reach Moni village, i suggest stay a night in Ende then continue to Moni, other than that after 3pm there is no buses or pubic transport anymore to Moni.
But there is cheap hostel not too far from Ende airport it cost around 50k/night the name is "Dasi Guest House" the price include breakfast maybe this could be alternative who travel with budget.
From hostel i took angkot (public transport) to Roworeke bus terminal, there is only one public transport to Moni, the angkot with green color the rate around 30k rupiah.
Homestay in Moni village cost start from 200k rupiah/night.
Rent motorcylce in Moni 100k rupiah/day.
Ticket entrance to Kelimutu lake : 5k (domestic tourist), 150k (foreigner tourist).
